Automatic Processing
Automatic Processing is the process of encoding information without being aware of it. An example of this is if you are trying to remember where you went to lunch last week, and the only thing you can think of is that you wore a blue shirt. You automatically processed what you were wearing without effort. When you were doing this you may have been trying to remember what you had for lunch, and you are able to do so. This is because of the fact that automatic processing does not affect any other encoding.
